CARE IN ACTION
Supporting children, families and the wider community.
Since 2024, Caitlin Tsai has served as Programme Director and Committee Member of the Caring Hearts United Fund, carrying forward its commitment to children and families in Shenzhen’s Longhua District.
Through community visits, youth participation and targeted assistance programmes, Caitlin is helping to broaden awareness of different needs within the community and encouraging more young people to contribute their time and compassion.
Supporting Children with Autism
In April 2024, Caitlin led students from Bromsgrove School Mission Hills on a visit to the Kailehao Special Children Rehabilitation Institution in Longhua District.
The students learnt about the daily experiences and rehabilitation needs of children with autism before joining them in music, movement, games and sports. The CHU Fund and the school also donated teaching equipment to support the centre’s work.
For Caitlin, the visit was an opportunity to deepen understanding of children with different needs and encourage greater empathy, inclusion and community support.
Bringing Generations Together
In January 2026, Caitlin led preschool pupils from Mission Hills Kindergarten on a visit to Wanqing Nursing Home.
The children performed for the residents and presented them with handmade gifts, bringing together younger and older generations through companionship and conversation. The activity also introduced the children to the values of compassion, respect and social responsibility from an early age.
Supporting Premature Babies and Their Families
In September 2026, the CHU Fund announced a new initiative to support premature babies and families facing financial hardship.
Premature babies can require prolonged medical treatment, specialist follow-up and rehabilitation after leaving hospital. This can place considerable financial and emotional pressure on their families.
Working with Longhua District Charity and Longhua District People’s Hospital, the initiative will support eligible families with post-discharge treatment, rehabilitation, nutritional support and other essential care needs. It will also connect families with practical guidance and emotional support throughout their care journey.
The programme represents a new phase in the CHU Fund’s work, extending its established mission of supporting seriously ill children to address the specific needs of premature babies and their families.
Looking Ahead
Caitlin believes community service depends on the sustained commitment of many people. Through the CHU Fund, she hopes to bring more young people, families and community partners together to support those facing difficult circumstances.
